A Book Expressing A Love For Music

A Book Expressing A Love For Music

As I sit listening to some wonderful old school music and crafting and creating I think with a smile how much influence music has had on my life. Having been born in the 60s I’ve certainly lived through many changes in music style and taste. Sadly with a lot of music nowadays not much is left to the imagination but thankfully there is always technology to keep the past in the present with music. I can be accused of hording some old cassettes and even a few records but love the way you can get some much music into so little space now.

Music Pages Two Music PagesMusic Book Three

This little book covers all types of music and is transparent in the center so looks great in front of a light. Its a fun way to put so much feeling about something into a little space.

I realize that at some point in each day I hear music and find that its actually become a necessity for me. I also realize that the dances I did back then are the only dances I can do now LOL.  What a great gift music is!

The Ladies Danced – ZNE 2009

The Ladies Danced

Okay, that’s the name of this piece but it could also describe my experience at ZNE 2009!

Victorian Tea Party in a Cigar Box

Victorian Tea Party in a Cigar Box

Well if you’re into Vintage, Victorian, Antique or Mixed Media, this was definitely the place to be. I’ve discovered as an Artist trying to stay out of the corporate maze that Networking is a true necessity and a great experience.  At ZNE we met so many unique Artists and visitors.  We were blessed with having the first table at the door (so they saw my goofy smile on the way in and on the way way out! LOL) .  I’ve always been amazed by people that could turn sticks and stones into Beauty and Art.  And they were there. And even better there were many teaching others how to do the same! Kids passed by with huge proud smiles on their faces after having done a Make and Take. Adults whispered of their excitement after finding a doll or toy or game they hadn’t seen since childhood. Memories rushed in!  We even had the pleasure of hearing Jon Troast sing as he performed Live. All in All, it was a great positive energy and a lot of playful spirit!
I loved it and can’t wait until the next one.

My Thank You! :-)

Well Happy February!

Wow, has this years started with a bang, a boom, or what! Lots of stuff going on. Lots of friends laid off, hek, even I’ve been laid off…by phone no less (on my birthday!) LOL LOL. But…. I think I’ll just roll on, and remember that it will all get better soon, it always does, eventually.  I have to admit, when I was younger it would have stressed me out to the max, now it just pushes me even harder. The company I worked for was really really bad with the people skills so it was a really negative energy anyway and hard to stay focused.  But I do pray for the people that will not take it that way and will be devastated by it. Laid off does not mean Laid under! or down, for that matter.  I just have to continue to stay focused on the dream.

I really encourage Journaling during this time of bad economy and worse energy. We never think about the fact that we went through the good the bad and the ugly and survived after it’s over so we never think about what we did and how we related during those times. Why think about it?, I’d say for the lessons we can learn and the lessons we can teach. I constently tell my children (who are grown) that things will get better, that we have the power to ward off the negative and keep on going. But it’s better to prove it to them by showing them what they have already come through and how they did it.

These pages are chipboard topped with White Gesso, and Glimmermist, colors are Patina, Pineapple and Midnight Blue. The page is sealed with Diamond Glaze (one of my favorites. I simply brush a light coat over the top of the finished page)
My January challenge was met and now on to February.  I think for February the challenge is to stay focused on the dream, to create at least 20 new projects and to continue on my Journal Journey! LOL…hmmmm

Mona Lisa Journals

The Altered Journal 3
The Altered Journal 3

Journaling serves so many purposes.  Documenting our lives and thoughts is not only healing and educational for us but also a record or a timeline for those that follow.  This Journal was created to provoke thought and fun and provide a place to leave our wisdom.  One day as I rummaged through old books at a bookstore I came across a diary from someone long passed. It was so personal that I felt overwhelmed but more than that I was intrigued and felt almost priviledged to be able to read the thoughts and wisdoms of someone who had come and gone long before I was born.  I thumbed through it with awe almost able to see the writer in my mind, but left it where I found it feeling like taking it with me would be an invasion not to mention I didn’t want to bring unknown energy home with me. Hmmmm.

I think it would be a great idea to note what’s going on in the world sometimes in my journal. Just in case it’s found by a curious mind after I’m gone. Note to self!

Note: I have a couple of favorites I want to share.

Tangerine in Dublin, Ca. This is the cutest little store in town! Not only does she have her own fantastic creations including wonderful handmade dolls but she has a great assortment of vintage ephemera and even a bunch of delicious sweets! She also carries a great assortment of magizines for the Mixed Media Artist. The owners name is Gina and she is an absolute joy to be around!

The other place is called Scrapbook Territory in Berkeley, CA.  If you are a Mixed Media Artist you will be surprised at the goodies you can find there. There’s an awesome assortment of papers, rubber stamps, Ribbons, Books and so much more. You can find most of the Tim Holtz items there including Alcohol Inks, Distress inks, Rubber Stamps, his wonderful Masks and so much more.  The ladies are friendly and knowledgeable and if they don’t know, there’s lots of classes! This one is worth the drive!

Oh well, even though it’s late at night, it’s back to the art station for me. Good Energy and Colorful Dreams to you!
