Collaging my Illusions

I couldn’t think of a better title than that. Because when I think about it….it’s my illusions that hit the canvas, the art table, my outside expressions of art.  I realize that it is truly about color with me. I drink in the colors and do many things I do because of them. For example the green of the grass and the trees motivates me to go outside and move around (even though sometimes I know I should stay more focused!). The color of the skys determine whether I will do the beach today or the craft store. For real! I know that sounds crazy but if I go out and the sky has lots of fluffy clouds but its a brilliant crisp shade of watery blue… Beach here I come.  If  there are darker clouds and they are less cottony in appearance and the sky is pale I may decide to hit the craft store or go hang out at one of my favorite places instead. I know that’s all a matter of life but sometimes we don’t stop to think about the things that really help motivate us. We always talk about the people that motivate us…

But what about the things, won’t somebody please tell me! LOL Just kidding.

Anyway, thats me rambling and this is me Collaging my Illusions!

This is various pieces I’ve created over the past year.

All of them using my favorite products, GlimmerMist, Alcohol Inks and Gesso.

Mona Lisa Journals

The Altered Journal 3
The Altered Journal 3

Journaling serves so many purposes.  Documenting our lives and thoughts is not only healing and educational for us but also a record or a timeline for those that follow.  This Journal was created to provoke thought and fun and provide a place to leave our wisdom.  One day as I rummaged through old books at a bookstore I came across a diary from someone long passed. It was so personal that I felt overwhelmed but more than that I was intrigued and felt almost priviledged to be able to read the thoughts and wisdoms of someone who had come and gone long before I was born.  I thumbed through it with awe almost able to see the writer in my mind, but left it where I found it feeling like taking it with me would be an invasion not to mention I didn’t want to bring unknown energy home with me. Hmmmm.

I think it would be a great idea to note what’s going on in the world sometimes in my journal. Just in case it’s found by a curious mind after I’m gone. Note to self!

Note: I have a couple of favorites I want to share.

Tangerine in Dublin, Ca. This is the cutest little store in town! Not only does she have her own fantastic creations including wonderful handmade dolls but she has a great assortment of vintage ephemera and even a bunch of delicious sweets! She also carries a great assortment of magizines for the Mixed Media Artist. The owners name is Gina and she is an absolute joy to be around!

The other place is called Scrapbook Territory in Berkeley, CA.  If you are a Mixed Media Artist you will be surprised at the goodies you can find there. There’s an awesome assortment of papers, rubber stamps, Ribbons, Books and so much more. You can find most of the Tim Holtz items there including Alcohol Inks, Distress inks, Rubber Stamps, his wonderful Masks and so much more.  The ladies are friendly and knowledgeable and if they don’t know, there’s lots of classes! This one is worth the drive!

Oh well, even though it’s late at night, it’s back to the art station for me. Good Energy and Colorful Dreams to you!

A New Day!

A New Day

A New Day

This piece was created using Glimmer Mist, Magic Mesh (as a screen) Rubber Stamps (the Mona Lisa and the bottom half of her (the Dress Form) are two different stamps).

Welcome to a New Day! I like that. The Welcome and the New Day! LOL. Yesterday I was blessed with a call from a Radio Station that wants to interview me.  As an Artist I’m honored, as a person I’m more than honored, I’m blessed.  In a sea of millions of Artists its great to be noticed.

The topic of the discussion will be about my Altered Journals and what leads me to the messages in them.  I love it!  I’ll keep you informed as to when the interview will be since it will be broadcast on the internet.

Altered Leather Bound Book

Altered Leather Bound Book

This is an old Leather Bound book .  All of the inner pages have been attached instead of removed to retain its thickness. A rectangular well was carved into the middle and filled with various objects.

Well I’m off to the Creation Station (a six foot table dead smack in the middle of my living room LOL).  Have a Great New Day!  Journey On!

Time After Time

Time Collage

Time Collage

Today I think I’ll take time to think! That’s what this piece is all about. Time to Think and Visualize what the heck I’m going to do with the next minute LOL.  Because I have so many different crafts my mind is going non-stop! I’ve even woke up in the middle of the night after dreaming ideas and set about making sure I would remember them the next day, like writing them down, or maybe even putting some of the supplies I will need to make it happen on my work table.  I know that sounds goofy but like I said before, I’m completely disorganized and almost artisically chaotic!

One of my recent favorite finds is Glimmer Mist. That’s what gives this piece the glimmering and colorful background.  I use this stuff on so many things. There are so many colors to choose from and it’s so easy to work it.

I have several techniques I use most including Rubber Stamps.  This piece is made using Glimmer Mist, Tim Holtz Alcohol Inks, Staz On Inks and Rubber Stamps.

Time for the Journey

I’d love to see some of your pieces using these techniques.

Have a great day and stay warm!  Stephanie
